2019 marks 400 years
The Year of Return | was a significant initiative by the Ghanaian government, in collaboration with the U.S.-based Adinkra Group.
Its purpose was to encourage African Diasporas to reconnect with their roots by visiting Africa, specifically Ghana, to settle and invest in the continent.

The initiative was formally launched by President Nana Akufo-Addo in September 2018 in Washington, D.C.
The year 2019 held special significance, as it marked 400 years since that pivotal moment when enslaved Africans set foot on American soil.

Impact and Revenue
Up to 1.5 million tourists, including celebrities, politicians, and world leaders, were expected to visit Ghana by the end of the year.
The estimated revenue from Year of Return activities was projected to reach up to 1.9 billion dollars.
The tourism sector experienced significant growth, with an 18% increase in international arrivals from the Americas, Britain, the Caribbean, and other key countries.
Total airport arrivals surged by 45% during the year.
The estimated spending by tourists also rose significantly, contributing to Ghana’s economy.
